BRONCHITIS, COUGH- PIPER LONGUM.

                                      




Long pepper available all over India used as spice, but it has medicinal quality.Pippali is the Sanskrit name,commonly called as Ippali,Hippali.It belongs to Piperaceae family.Latin name is Piper longum.
Usable parts.




Root and seed.
Active principle in Pippali.




Piperidine
Piperine
Piperettine
Resine and volatile oil
It has got pungent and sweet taste.
               Pippali ,stimulant for digestive and respiratory systems and has been shown to have analgesic,tonic,carminative properties.Mainly it is used to treat respiratory infections like cough ,bronchitis, and asthma.Also be used to treat stomachache ,anorexia,hyper acidity,abdominal pain , flatulence,diseases of spleen,tumours,vitiated vata,lumbar pain,arthritis.It has aphrodisiac property.It stimulates appetite and dispels gas from the intestine.In Ayurveda it is considered as good rejuvenating.Even then daily intake is not advisable.




     
Medicinal uses.




  • In small children's cold and cough lick honey and Pippali.
  • For cough in elderly people chew pippali with sugar candy.
  • Take 1/4 spoon of Pippali powder with sugar candy and Tulasi(Basil) juice in wheezing.
  • To reduce weight take 1/2 spoon of Pippali powder with honey  half an hour before food.
  • In old fever take Pippali powder with jaggery.
  • For muscular pain and swellings  external application of Pippali paste is useful.
  • Pippali decoction with milk and honey is good for hyper acidity.
  • In anaemia Pippali powder with Indian gooseberry gives good result.
  • In Hemiplegia and Sciatica Pippali decoction is found to be useful.
  • Vardhamana pippali -mentioned in Ayurveda is a rejuvinator for Respiratory and digestive system.It strengthens the immune system of the body.It is useful in Tuberculosis, Anaemia Piles etc.
