Fenugreek commonly known as Methi in Hindi,Menthe in Kannada,primarily  used as a spice,it is also used to treat a variety of diseases.Latin name of Fenugreek is Trigonella foenum-graecum and belongs to the family Leguminaseae.In Sanskrit it is called as Methika.

  • If any insect bite crush the garlic and apply it to the affected area to reduce the pain and remove the poison.
  • Lashuna ksheerapaka is one of the classical preparation mentioned in Ayurveda which helps to decrease the smell and pungent taste of garlic,retaining the medicinal qualities unaltered.
  • In Ayurveda it is mentioned that ,In Pitta related disorders take garlic with sugar,in Kapha with honey and in vatha with ghee.
  • In earache make oil with garlic and put 2 drops in affected ear.

Caution:

  • Some people have hypersensitivity to garlic.They show skin allergy,headache etc.To overcome this coriander should be taken.
  • One should not take more than2-3 garlic cloves/day.

Definition:Fasting is voluntary total abstination from taking any kind of (solid) food for a definite period of time with the view to give rest to different organs of the body and their by helping them to get cleansed.-Herbert.M.Shelton.
            In nature except human being all other animals folllow fasting when they fall sick(including infants who refuse mother's milk during illness).

    • For cold and loss of appetite chew a paste of pepper mixed with 1tsp of honey.
    • For flatulence drink decoction prepared using pepper,cumin and rock salt.
    • For toothache-make a decoction of pepper by adding 1/8th spoon of pepper powder to 1/2 cup of boiling water.Stir and keep it on low heat for few minutes.Rinse the mouth with warm decoction.Retain the liquid in the mouth for minute.
    • For pains and ache apply a paste of pepper on affected part.
    • Add jaggery and pepper to a cup of boiling water.add honey when it is cool and drink .It gives relief from cough.
    • In case of eczema ,apply a mixture of pepper powder and ghee on affected area.
    • In case of pimples apply the paste of pepper over the pimple to dry them.

    HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE -MANAGEMENT.

    As blood circulates through the body ,it exerts varying degrees of force on artery walls and that pressure is called blood pressure.In its early stages ,high B.P is symptomless,so many people don't realise they have a potentially life threatening disease.If the condition goes untreated high B.P. damages the heart and blood vessels and can lead to a stroke,heart attack and other serious consequences.

    Factors affecting high blood pressure

    • Age.With age B.p rises.
    • Family history
    • stress
    • Smoking
    • Excessive alcohol
    • Sedentary life style
    • Diabetes
    • Obesity and other diseases increase the risk.

             All adults over age 40 should have their B.P checked annually.But one B.P measurement is insufficient to diagnose  hypertension unless the reading is in the severe range.In order to properly diagnose hypertension  several measurements are needed-taken at different times and perhaps in different places.

    Management of High blood pressure.

    • keep your weight down Being even slightly over weight contributes to hypertension.Losing excess weight ,brings the blood pressure to normal.Even a  modest weight loss will cause a drop in blood pressure.
    • Eat less fat A high fat diet not only contributes to weight gain but may also lead to high blood pressure.


    • .Reduce salt intake High salt diet also contributes  to the condition in people who have genetic tendency  to retain sodium.These type of people should restrict  salt in diet.Other than this older people  and people with diabetes appears to be sensitive to sodium and may get benefit from eating low sodium diet.


    • Reduce alcohol and caffeine consumption Consuming more alcohol and caffeine,especially in older people can raise blood pressure.

    PANCHAKARMA-


    The word" Panchakarma" consists of two parts."Pancha" means five and "   Karma"means therapeutic procedure in Ayurveda.It has emerged as the effective therapeutic unit of Ayurveda.Ayurveda is not a science of treating diseases but also an art of living.Panchakarma can be administered for diseased and healthy people,because person who takes Panchakarma will experience a sense of well being.

    In virechana elimination of vitiated  dosha is done through purgation.This is useful in treating skin diseases,acidity, heartburn etc.

    Nasya{Nasal administration of medicines}

    RaktaMokshana{Blood letting}

    Long pepper available all over India used as spice, but it has medicinal quality.Pippali is the Sanskrit name,commonly called as Ippali,Hippali.It belongs to Piperaceae family.Latin name is Piper longum.

        ANTIBIOTIC, ANTISEPTIC-TURMERIC.

         Turmeric is commonly used in Indian kitchen. Latin name is Curcuma longa.Turmeric belongs to Zingiberacae family. Curcumin & Curcuminoids are the active ingredients.                                              





        Turmeric

        USES OF TURMERIC AS MEDICINE.
        • Turmeric is soothing to the stomach  and is thought to prevent  stomach cancer  if given with  Lime juice.
        • Turmeric is a Natural antibacterial  and antiseptic agent.
        • When combined with cauliflower  it has shown to prevent prostate cancer and stop the growth of existing prostate  cancer.
        • Potent natural anti inflammatory drug without side effects and is natural pain killer.
        • It can also help to protect the Gallbladder and liver and provide a defence against cancer.
        • It is a natural Liver detoxifier.
        • It reduces the risk of childhood leukaemia.
        •  May prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease by removing amyloid plaque build up in the brain.
        • May prevent occurrence of  metastases  in  different forms of cancer.
        • May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management.
        • It is a good blood purifier and useful  in skin diseases.
        • In head ache and nose block, burn turmeric and inhale the fumes.
        • For fresh wounds just apply the paste of turmeric.That gives antiseptic effect.
        • Boil one cup of mil with one spoon of turmeric powder.Add sugar or jaggery(if required) for taste. Drink when it is hot.This gives relief from cough and cold.
        • To remove unwanted hair mix turmeric powder with wheat powder and coconut oil and make paste.Apply this paste over that.
        • To improve the complexion mix turmeric powder with Channa flour and milk cream and apply over the face.Wash after 15 minutes.
        • For small rashes apply turmeric powder mixed with lime juice.
        • In liver and spleen enlargement application of turmeric paste over that area gives good result.
        • Nishamalaki, that is turmeric and Indian gooseberry is mentioned in AYURVEDA for treating  Diabetes.Mixture of turmeric  powder and gooseberry powder in empty stomach daily is useful .
        • To treat acne apply the paste of chandana(sandalwood) and turmeric over face. Wash after 15 minutes.
        • Haridra Khanda is the classical preparation for the treatment of chronic cough and wheezing.
        • It is good to cleans the uterus.
        • Turmeric subsides all the three doshas.
